Born on 5th October 1969, in Ratlam (M.P.), Himanshu Dabral hails from a family of artists, creative writers and educationists. His father, Navin Dabral and his Grand Father, Pandit Purshottam Dabral Shastri served as professors of English and Hindi respectively, in the various Govt. colleges of M.P. His Grand-Mother, Satyawati Dabral was a literary writer of no mean achievement. Her collection of poetry, 'Patheya' and collection of short stories, 'Thodi Si Mohalat', have already made inroads in the realms Hindi literature. His sister Jyotshna Dabral (Joshi) has been awarded Ph.D. degree on the Inter-relationship of painting and poetry of the famed poetess Mahadevi Varma. Himanshu and his sister Jyotshna remind us of the famous Rossetti brother and sister with whom poetry and painting went together. In fact, the entire family of the Dabrals’ is deeply steeped in literature and painting. Himanshu earned his Master's Degree in Drawing and Painting in 1992 from Vikram University, Ujjain. In lieu of a paper in M.A. final, he presented a research paper ‘Dr. R.C. Bhawsar the Artist’ which won him great accolades. He learnt his lessons on drawing and painting under the stewardship of Dr. R.C. Bhawsar, Dr. Shiv Kumari Rawat (Joshi) and Dr. Shrikrishna Joshi. They were his mentors, but he never toed their line blindly. |
